DfMA / Studytel Kernick, Penryn, Cornwall _ Stride Treglown/Caledonian Modular

< Digested Perspectives >

This is a space where I’ll be posting images that don’t necessarily find a natural home on other areas of my website.

Each professional commission - indeed every day out with a camera in hand - also throws up a series shots without an intended use perhaps, but that bring me some sort of satisfaction that I’d like to share here.

Travelling back from another project, I couldn’t help but be attracted to the horizon and to what was the prettiest and largest Sarens crane setup in Penryn on that day - indeed, on any day in living memory.

It turned out to be involved in the construction of Studytel Kernick, a new and novel accommodation building for the University of Falmouth, directly adjacent to their Penryn Campus.

As the developers put it, ‘This innovative ‘intelligent’ building sets the new global standard for student living with its contemporary social, study, workspace and state-of the-art facilities all integrated together under one roof’.

The architects for the project are Stride Treglown, who have combined their skills with those of Caledonian Modular to fully explore the benefits of Design for Manufacture, where agility in the design and construction processes deliver significant cost and programme benefits.
